Green Bay, WI, Jobseeker Turns to Billboard To Promote Himself, Find Job

GREEN BAY, WI (PRWEB) July 21, 2005 -- With the state job market stagnant at best, a Green Bay jobseeker is taking matters into his own hands.

When the announcement that the marketing job he had held for three years was not being renewed, Gary Radke was understandably upset. He and five co-workers were losing their jobs as the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts launched a strategy to improve the Center financially.

Radke quickly turned his complete energy toward trying to find a new job. As the weeks went on, the results were less than stellar. An idea that had popped into his mind early on as a joke, began to sound more and more plausible. He would take out a billboard advertising himself in hopes of landing a job. Im a marketing guy by trade, so why not utilize some of the same strategies Ive used to sell products and services& to sell ME, said Radke.

So he contacted local sign company Orde Advertising to bring his idea to the big screen. It is a non-traditional, fun twist on a very traditional sort of message. His entertaining billboard is memorable, and thats what makes it impactful, stated Orde Advertising Account Consultant Julie Koenig.

Radke secured the domain name www.HireGary.net and built a website with background information, a portfolio, his resume and a blog (online journal) where he discusses some of his job search experiences.

The simple black, white and red billboard design reads like a personal ad only instead of trying to find love, Radke is trying to find a career. The billboard is installed on the corner of Main Street and Lime Kiln Road on the East side of Green Bay, and will be up throughout the month of July.

Hopefully folks will be impressed by the creativity and initiative, which will lead to something, said Radke. Otherwise, Ive got myself a really big portfolio piece.
